We are a playgroup with a difference - a beautiful, well resourced playgroup that is run according to Montessori principles.
Our playgroup is one where your child or children will be immersed in an environment which encourages learning, fun and play.
Each day our children direct the activities they wish to be involved in - this may be one on one Montessori jobs with their parents, painting, craft, reading, playdough or playing with the other children in our garden. Smaller children will probably be content to play while older children will love the dedicated time they get to spend with their parent on specific Montessori activities.
After these activities, we have morning tea where the children are encouraged to assist in preparing, setting up and cleaning up. This is then followed by a music session.
Our aim is to make our playgroup an attractive, nurturing environment where you get to spend quality time with your child and other like-minded parents.
We moved into our new premises in the grounds of Cottesloe Primary School (no affiliation with the school, they are our lovely landlords) in March 2015 and we began accepting enrolments there in Term 2 2015. For some years we had been based in City Beach, but we had to vacate those premises at the end of 2014 and previously were in Claremont. We attract parents from everywhere around Perth. New members are always welcome - we do have a waiting list for some sessions so please be sure to put your name down early.
LCDB is not like your regular playgroup. It's more about having a beautiful environment where your child can explore and learn to do things for him/herself. To see the concentration on your child's face when doing a job and then the smiles when the job is mastered is wonderful.
I have been attending LCDB for the past 4 years having started with my eldest daughter and am now attending with my fourth child. That's how great I think this playgroup is!
My 2 year old son's favourite jobs at playgroup are the practical life ones - like squeezing oranges, pouring water, sweeping the cubby and watering the plants and this translates to home where he always wants to help with jobs around the house.
Our playgroup is wonderful - it's friendly, fun and I've watched our son grow into all the different activities on offer since he began over two years ago. Although I had no knowledge of Montessori before I came, I can now say that we apply many of the Montessori principles at home as I really love the philosophy.
I'd recommend our playgroup to anyone who would love to share some special time with their children in these formative years, as well as meet some great mums and dads.
